While creating volumes of ever changing work, T Benton Brooks’ paintings reflect fifty years of self-development rarely seen in contemporary, modern and abstract artists.

Realizing, at an early age, that he was blessed with a gift of expressing life through fine art, he has been pursuing his passion ever since. Disregarding the personal turmoil that normally sidetracks people from their life’s focus, Brooks has instead remained true to his dreams and spent most of his life being what he was meant to be -- an artist with a never satisfied hunger for expression and a vision of boundless new horizons.
T Benton Brooks was born in Burbank, California in 1949. Early on, his family settled down in Hollywood and it was there that he was exposed to a wide range of very creative temperaments and personalities. The 1960’s, and all that they represented in America, fueled the creative passions that lay quietly within. By the end of high school, he had found art as a way of life and a means to express himself in a constantly altering world. While continuing his art education in college, he met the love of his life, Carol, who was pursuing her own degree in art as well. In the pursuit of both fine art and starting a family they moved to Santa Barbara, one of California’s most art-minded communities, where T Benton attended the prestigious Brooks Institute School of Art.
Through the 1970’s, Brooks made a living in the crafts world while searching for his artistic language. He was a jeweler, woodworker, glass blower, silkscreen clothing artist, and finally a portrait artist. He and his family traveled extensively across the country while selling his creations. Along with their young daughter, the Brooks family would not conclude their journey for nearly a year and, upon returning, began looking for a fresh approach to life outside of Southern California. In 1978 the Brooks family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

As the 1980’s progressed, his family’s life-situation improved. They moved into their own home and Brooks rented a studio downtown to allow more space for his works and creative ambitions. While he occasionally showed his work, his concern was not to sell it. Rather, he chose to concentrate on creative growth and development. Over the next several years he began to see four distinct styles emerge, reminiscent of abstract expressionism, realism, cubism and impressionism. These had been developing since the 70’s and brought balance to his creative and spiritual concepts. He focused on those diverse styles and developed them with clarity and confinement. During this period of growth came a new graphic style combining newspaper, black pen, and paint; resulting in a fresh modern abstract art series. The 1990’s were a time of coming together – of ideas and styles. T Benton Brooks was in control of his art and what he wanted to say. This was a very productive time for the artist, resulting in an explosion of creativity. Brooks felt that the works almost painted themselves and he was merely an observer.
In the 2000’s he chose, over everything else, to work in his studio and produce art, and especially original abstract art, that would reflect over forty years of the artist’s experiences. For those who understand the creative, free spirit and love to collect one-of-a-kind original art, T Benton Brooks offers us his unique volume of work which will surely have its’ place in art history.
